How to clean your face properly!

How often do you clean your face and what products do you use?  Do you follow the new trends for cleansing or are you the traditional type that uses soap and water?
I believe that the most important thing about maintaining good skin is making sure your face is clean, toned and moisturised! Wash your face always, especially before you go to bed.  After a long day, your face has make-up, dirt and grime on it.  The last thing you want to do is leave it there for another 8 hours.  Also, while you sleep your skin rejuvenates naturally, so a clean face can easily take in all the good properties that your night cream has to offer, whether this is anti-ageing, moisturising or anti-blemish.

♥ Identify your skin to choose the right facial cleanser for your skin type. If you have an oily or combination skin, use a foam cleanser for better results, and if you have a dry or normal skin it is best to use a cream cleanser with shea butter or any other ingredient that hydrates and moisturises the skin.

♥ Foundation and concealer are very difficult to remove, mainly from the eye area, so use an oil-based product for better results.  Coconut oil is also great to remove waterproof mascara and eyeliner.

Johnsons Gentle Eye Make-up Remover

♥ If you have oily skin use a toner after you wash your face (these days I use a natural rose water spray) to get rid of any excess oil and to remove any residues left on the skin.

Natural Rose Water Spray

♥ Always remove your make-up before going to the gym and wash your face after your workout to unclog your pores.  Wearing make-up when you exercise can cause an extra oily face.  During your exercise session, your pores open up while sweating and make-up reduce skin's natural ability to breathe.  Clogged pores create red pumps that result to acne.

♥ Face wash must not contain any perfume that can cause irritation or parabens that are also bad for your skin.

Clean & Clear Deep Cleansing Foam Wash

♥ Do not overdo it! You don't have to wash your face all the time, but if you have an oily face, wash it at least twice a day.  When you wash, you're clearing away all the impurities that can build up during everyday activities, but you're also stripping away the skin's natural oils. If you wash your face too frequently, you're destroying what skin needs to stay soft and supple, resulting to dryness.

♥  Use cold or lukewarm water and not extremely hot water, as it will strip healthy natural oils and dry your face.  I like to use cold water to my face as I enjoy the feeling of tightness it leaves to my skin.

Simple Purifying Cleansing Lotion

♥ Always pat your skin to dry, do not rub it!  Rubbing your face with your towel will cause irritation, so be gentle to your skin.

♥ It is important to exfoliate your face once or twice a week.  Using a scrub will help increase circulation and remove dead skin cells.  I use many face scrubs, but my holy grail scrub is a homemade one that I recently discovered.  The recipe is this: put two tablespoons of raw honey in a mug and one tablespoon of sugar and combine them together.  Then put the creamy paste in your face and with circular motions massage it slowly.  Leave it for 2-3 minutes and then wash it off.  You will be amazed!  It was the first time that I felt my skin so soft and smooth!!!! Try it!!!
