Essence Princess False Lash Effect Mascara

Welcome to my biggest disappointment ever. Yes, that's right! The Essence Princess False Lash Effect Mascara has great reviews everywhere and it is recommended by many lovely bloggers that I follow and love, but this mascara does not work for me.
Many people said that they keep repurchasing this one cause it's their favourite. I wish it was my favourite too and the journey of finding 'the one' mascara for me would end here!

I had high hopes, and it is probably the one product that I wanted to try so bad. A mascara that gives you a 'false lash effect'? Yes, I wanted that. I haven't found a mascara that gives my lashes both volume and length, and believe me, I tried lots of mascaras, but I haven't found 'the one' yet.

I tried it as soon as I got it and I was so excited to do so. This mascara looked a little dry than any other mascara I tried. I applied many coats (probably 5-6 coats) to give volume and length but nothing special. I was so disappointed.

I thought that maybe my piece was dry from the store, maybe a girl opened it to try it and then another one did, and it got dry....who knows? (they did not have testers in the store). Then the next day, I tried it again. And again the following day.

This time, it was wetter than the day before, and I noticed more product on the wand. Upon application, my lashes did not separate at all. With 3 coats, my lashes looked like they were glued together and like I had 4 lashes only.

They were stuck together and looked horrible. I tried to separate them with a small brush but it was hopeless. I have never experienced this before with a mascara, even the worst mascara separates my lashes. I left it on for the day to test it more, and after an hour or so, I noticed flakes everywhere, it was like the product was separating itself from my lashes.

The wand is one thing that I like. It is long and the brush not very big, in comparison with brushes of other Essence mascaras that I tried in the past. I hate large brushes cause I always create a mess. On the bright side, this mascara gave my lashes a dark black colour, but the formula is a big no no.

I was thinking what I said above, that maybe the one that I purchased was dry from the store and maybe it was opened too many times and the formula went bad. Is this even possible? And I wanted to buy another one from another beauty shop, maybe I am lucky with my second pick, I want to love this mascara but I am not loving it. And it is not expensive at all, it is under €5.

What are your thoughts on this? Shall I buy another one? Have you tried this?

  1. I love Essence cosmetics because everything is affordable and they have hidden gems in there. However, it also happened to me that I bought a gel liner that has either dried or maybe the eyeliner is really bad. No regrets though, since Essence products are not expensive at all XX

  3. Aw, such a bummer that this didn't live up to your expectations. I don't know if I would waste my money on another one though, I'd probably go for a different brand. However, the wand does look very nice!

  5. Oh no! That's such a shame it didn't work out for you. I've also read great reviews about their mascaras, but I've always been really nervous to try them. It seems like because it's so cheap I wouldn't expect it to be any good. No one wants a flakey mascara!

  6. With mascaras I always thought it was the wand that made it good or bad, but it seems like its the formula! I've never tried Essence mascaras but I'll probably skip this one anyway, I prefer plastic bristles. Great review!

    1. It's both, you can either have a good wand and a bad formula or the opposite. This one has a nice wand and brush, I really like it bad the formula is a big no no.

  12. I didn't like this mascara at first either, it flakes and smudges on me. Later I found out that it's an excellent base coat for other mascaras, one little coat of this one and then your fav mascara on top and your lashes will look so lush :)
