All about serums

The difference of serums from common creams is that they have highly concentrated compositions which act in depth, providing skin extra nutritional ingredients in order to drastically face the signs of ageing.

Serums have been really popular in the past five or six years and there so many great serums in the market to choose from.

♥ What type of skin needs a serum?
All skin types can use a moisturising or an anti-ageing serum. The serum is recommended to be used throughout the year as our skin bears against external factors (dry air, cold, heat) and others such as stress, normal ageing and hormonal changes.

2♥ Can I use a serum instead of a moisturiser?
The serum has a concentrated formula that works deep into the skin. Those who have oily skin can use the serum on its own while the ones with dry skin can use the serum underneath the day cream.

3♥ How to choose the right serum and what ingredients are effective?
Ingredients such as retinol and hyaluronic acid play an important role in anti-ageing products. Other ingredients to look for are vitamin C that encourages the production of collagen, Caviar extract that is rich in proteins, nourishes and energizes the skin, and vitamin A that is essential for helping the skin to renew its cells.

4 What is the right way to use them?
A serum can be used in the morning or evening, after cleansing and under the cream to maximise its effect. Thanks to their excellent light texture, a serum does not weigh the skin and provide an excellent base for makeup.

5♥ Can we choose the same serum at 20, 30 or 40?
No, because the skin's needs are different at every age. At the age of twenty, a moisturising serum will offer the moisture it needs. In our thirties, our metabolism slows down and the goal should be to stimulate the function of fibroblasts to produce collagen. The serum you must choose, should be rich in hyaluronic acid that supports collagen and regulates hydration. In our forties, an anti-ageing serum should be combined in order to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and soften the expression lines.

Do you use a serum? And if yes, what kind?

  8. Believe it or not I've never used a serum! I just find it unnecessary at this point with my skin type. I do use however a facial oil as a pre-moisturizing step and that's definitely helping with any texture issues. As I grow older I will definitely add a serum to my skincare routine but for now I'm happy with my current one. Thank you for this informative piece!

  11. I started using serums in my early 20s and haven't stopped since. You're right about we need different serums as we age because our skin changes too. These days I use lots of anti aging serums to help slow down aging.
