Mistakes in hair care

We all want healthy and shiny hair, but are we doing all things needed in order to have healthy and shiny hair? In the past years, the only hair routine I was following was: wash, condition, comb and blow dry.
I didn't even use styling products or heat protection products to reduce heat damage on my hair.  Nowadays, I try to take care of my hair as much as possible.  If you love having long, healthy, non-greasy, non-dull hair, you must avoid these mistakes we all do occasionally.

1) We wash our hair daily: if you wash your hair every day, you are helping your scalp to produce more oils and making it more greasy.  Wash your hair every two days if you have an oily scalp or every three days if you have a dry scalp.

2) We do not wash our hair correctly: there is a correct way to wash our hair; moisten your hair well, rub the shampoo between your palms and begin to spread from the top of the head to the tips. Then with your fingers gently massage for a minute or two around the head. Rinse well and wrap them in a towel to absorb the water. Be sure to use the right products for your hair type.

3) We do not use the right shampoo: selecting the right shampoo for you depends on many factors like your hair type, the needs of your hair, pregnancy, age, seasons, whether you are exposed in the sun daily etc.

4) Not protecting our hair from the sun: Hair also needs attention when exposed in the sun.  Apply sun protection to your hair in the form of a spray or cream and also, after sun exposure, wash with the suitable shampoo and use a moisturising mask to restore any damage caused.

5) Applying the conditioner from the root along the hair: The conditioner softens the hair ends only, in the remaining hair it is best to use masks. If you apply the conditioner to the top of the scalp, because you believe that you will get better results, you are wrong. The conditioner in the roots will block the pores, creating a film of product residues, which will make your hair greasy and sticky.

6) We rub the hair with the towel after wash: rubbing wet hair will cause extra damage because hair is weak when wet and rubbing roughens up the cuticle leading to breakage.  It is best to use a cotton towel of even a t-shirt to absorb the extra moisture.

7) We don't use heat protectants when using heat tools: use creams, sprays or serums before blow drying them  to make sure that little damage is done and your hair will remain healthy.
